Contest Action & Airtime – Sick Trick Tour Open 2018
08.03.2018

Last Saturday, March 3rd of 2018, contest action and freestyle at its best were the motto of the day at Snowpark Kitzbühel. The Sick Trick Tour Open – 7th stop of the QParks Tour 2018 and kick-off of the Sick Trick Tour – went down! Great weather and a sick setup promised a contest day straight out of the storybook. And all expectations were met: Motivated riders showed freestyle action and their best tricks!

Motivated vibes prevailed from the very beginning of the day at Snowpark Kitzbühel. After the first few training runs it became clear, that the setup of park designer Franz Lechner didn’t only challenge the skills of the riders, but also fuel their creativity. The contest-line consisted of two jumps, followed by a jib feature – which consisted of a flat/down box, an up/flat rail and a jump. And, last but not least, the riders had to shred another jump with two take-offs. The riders gave all their energy and set a high riding level from the very beginning. And in between runs the participants could chill out and relax with lunch and great beats at the Chill Area.

Sick Tricks from the Snowboarders

All shredheads went straight to the point: Federica Sola (ITA) made the first place in the category Ladies and impressed the judges with a backflip, followed by a 50/50 boardslide and a frontside 360 frontside grab. Amber Fennell (GBR) made the second place, followed by Emma Lantos (AUT) on 3rd place. In the category Men Felix Widnig (AUT) convinced the judges with a backside 540 tail, followed by a switch boardslide 270 and a cab 720 stale and made first place. With his third trick he also won the Best Trick Award and got 50€ cash. Ožbe Kuhar (SVN) made the second place and Yanev Tosho (BGR) became third.

The Groms showed big freestyle action as well: In the category Grom Ladies Amber Fennell (GBR) won, followed by Romy van Vreden (NLD) on second place and Hollie Smith (GBR) made the third place. In the category Grom Men Ožbe Kuhar (SVN) landed on first place, Anej Herzenjak (SVN) made second place and Hayden Harvey-Smith (GBR) became third.

“It was back in the 90s. We were fanatic snowboarders, constantly roaming the surrounding hills, building kickers wherever possible. Bad Religion and NOFX were blasting from our battery-powered cassette player. With our camcorder, shovels and boozy tea we had everything we needed and it was a damn awesome time.”
