10 Years and not even thinking about calming down – Happy Birthday, Snowpark Kitzbühel!
05.12.2017

We have every reason to celebrate! Snowpark Kitzbühel has been a fixed part of the winter sports repertoire of the Tyrolian ski resort for a whole decade now. It was one of the first QParks ever built in Austria and is now celebrating its 10th anniversary! On this occasion, we take a trip down memory lane and, at the same time, also look ahead into what the upcoming season has ready for us.

Much has happened and much has changed, but luckily not everything. The park has developed and over the years it has grown to its current size and dimension. The “Signature”-Area in the lower park area, the Triple Kickerline, is the oldest and most characteristic park area – a remarkable number of riders have sent it across these tables over the past years.

A little later, the big Gap Kicker, which was always branded with the unmistakable Kitzbühel chamois was added to the opposite side of the Kickerline. This was followed by the Middle and the Upper Park Area and two years ago by the Kids Area in the upper section. “The park has grown bit by bit”, says Bernd Mandlberger, who has been employed as a technical manager and as such involved in the development of the park for a long time. “Also thanks to people like Toni Kogler”, he adds. “Without him the park wouldn’t have grown as fast as it did.”

Snowcat driver Toni Kogler remembers very well how it all began:At first, we used a conventional snowcat; the one they use for the usual grooming. Then we started to optimize it for the construction of the park. We extended the push frame and rebuilt the cylinder linkage”, the routineer competently explains the changes to the machine. He was responsible for the slope for 20 years. The construction and the maintenance of the snowparks were a new challenge for him – which he still likes to take up today. You can feel his passion for the topic when he speaks about the modifications: “By relocating the cylinder suspension we could reach the optimal departure angle. We tested it in the park and also engineers of the snow groomer manufacturer Prinoth came by to test it in the field. We still drive it today and are still satisfied with the quality!

Of course, also Lisi Obermoser, Max Schirmeisen and Flo Hasenauer are significantly responsible for the development of the freestyle sport in Kitzbühel. The organization team of the Sick Trick Tour was involved in the formation of the park from the beginning – and they have brought contest atmosphere to Hanglalm for many years.

And while we are talking about people who coined the Snowpark Kitzbühel we will not forget about Franz J. Lechner. He has also been one of the persons influencing the Snowpark Kitzbühel over the years. Known as a Kitzbühel institution, he put his stamp on the park for many years as a park designer. Once again, he will be responsible for the park during this upcoming season.

What does the Future have in Store?

Before Hanglalm became a freestyle playground, the Kitzbüheler Horn was the focal point for riders from the surrounding area. This winter we will come full circle: The Kitzbüheler Horn will become home to a Family Park and a Audi quattro funslope. This will be celebrated with an opening event with music and food. On the Facebook page you will get more information about the start of the event.

You will find information about the date of the event on the website of the snowpark. To celebrate the season, the website is being redesigned and will relaunch with brand-new functions. On the new website you can see basically first-hand how the park is built up, because this season a Media Crew will cover the whole construction process.

Here we would like to show you a Vimeo video.

Attention, contest riders: Also this year the QParks Tour will visit Hanglalm with the Sick Trick Tour Open. On March 3, 2018, it is all about goodies, cash and, of course, tour points in Kitzbühel. For information about the tour stop and about the registration visit the tour website.

We hope you will celebrate this anniversary with us and that you stop by the Snowpark Kitzbühel once or twice during the upcoming months. You have awesome shots from you shredding the park? Tag @snowparkkitzbuehel, send a direct message or use the hashtag #freestylekitzbuehel if you want to share them with the park’s Instagram channel. See you on the mountain!

Freestyle snowboarding and skiing require much more than just physical skills. While technique, timing, and body control are essential, the mental aspect is often the decisive factor when it comes to learning new tricks. A strong mindset helps you overcome obstacles, make continuous progress, and handle challenges effectively. Here’s how you can specifically improve your "mental game."

Eliska isn’t your typical shaper in the snowpark. Along with shaping obstacles in the Sölden Snowpark, she’s also responsible for capturing and sharing its story on social media. From shaping the park’s features to snapping the perfect shot for Instagram and Facebook, Eliska combines her passion for snow and storytelling. We caught up with her to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like to be a Multimedia Shaper in a snowpark.

“It was back in the 90s. We were fanatic snowboarders, constantly roaming the surrounding hills, building kickers wherever possible. Bad Religion and NOFX were blasting from our battery-powered cassette player. With our camcorder, shovels and boozy tea we had everything we needed and it was a damn awesome time.”

Around 70 contestants, perfect weather and breathtaking tricks in a beautiful setup - all this was combined at this year's Plan P. Here you can find the most important information and results of Plan P 2025!
